It is no big secret that a well-written profile can spell the success or failure of your online dating experience.
Many online dating opportunities have been won or lost all because of one seemingly simple detail: the user profile.
If this sounds a bit over-dramatic, think about it. What is the one piece of information you can use when getting to know a prospective date on an online dating service? What else but your user profile. Why all the fuss over the user profile you ask? As mentioned above, your profile is what prospective dates will use to gauge whether or not the two of you will get along or not. A poorly presented profile can spoil the whole deal.

What is meant by a poorly presented profile then? To simplify matters, here are a few tips to help you make a winning profile:

  • Remember to focus more on presentation than content. Content here refers to you as a person. Say for instance, you like to cook. That's all fine and dandy. The problem is that there are a million other people from around the world who love cooking as well. The trick is to present this facet of yourself in as interesting a manner as possible. Think of a way to make yourself stand out from the other gourmets. You can talk about your specialty perhaps, and what makes your cooking different from anyone else's.
  • Presenting yourself through your profile is pretty much like selling yourself via an advertisement. You need to make your profile sound interesting and attract a lot of potential onlookers. Furthermore, you need to do this with the least amount of fanfare as possible. Avoid gimmicks such as racy photos or descriptions using sexual undertones. Try and use more adjectives and descriptions that show you as a person.
  • Write your profile in a manner that puts readers in the centre of the action, in a manner of speaking. Instead of telling them that you love going on long walks, why not ask them how they feel about walking outdoors? You need to let them feel that you are thinking of them and not just yourself.

As you will notice, the key to a winning online dating profile is reaching out to your reader. Your reader is essentially your potential date. Who knows? You efforts may just touch someone's heart. Good luck.
